Section 5 - Payment of Salaries

(4) Salaries are paid into financial institution accounts on a fortnightly basis. Further information is available in the Digital Workplace, Your pay webpage (QUT staff access only).

Section 6 - Recognition of Prior Service with QUT

Leave Entitlements

(5) Prior service with the University on a fixed-term basis will be recognised for the purpose of accruing all leave entitlements provided there is no break in service.

(6) Any prior service with the University will be recognised toward the staff member’s accumulation of long service leave entitlements provided the break in service does not exceed three months. In this instance, any accrued sick leave entitlement will also be recognised.

(7) In the case of service completed as a sessional staff member, service with breaks exceeding three months will also be recognised where it is a result of a break between consecutive semesters.

Increment Step

(8) Prior service with the University will be taken into account with regard to the increment step of the salary scale to which a staff member is appointed provided the break in service does not exceed three months.

Section 7 - Uniforms

(9) All full-time staff (on going and fixed-term) who have been engaged for a period of six months or more in routine buildings and grounds maintenance, logistics or cleaning activities must wear a uniform provided by the University.

(10) Uniforms are optional for staff engaged in the management or direct supervision of these activities. However, these staff must display their staff identification card when engaged in activities outside of their office or work area.

Section 8 - Return of QUT Property and Cancellation of Access

(11) Upon cessation of employment at QUT or when transferring to a different position within the University, staff are required to return University property and cancel access/authorities to buildings, computer accounts etc.

(12) The Checklist for staff transferring/terminating employment form (QUT staff access only), must be completed and signed by the relevant staff member and head of organisational area on the staff member's last working day, and held by the organisational area for a period of three years.

Section 9 - Absence from Normal Duties on University Business

(14) Staff may need to be absent from QUT on University business. Applications for such absences which involve more than 10 working days during semester or more than 15 working days outside of teaching sessions must be approved by the Executive Dean of faculty or Head of Division.

(15) Applications must be submitted to the Executive Dean of faculty or Head of Division in the format required for professional development program applications:

  1. for academic staff (Professional Development Leave (PDL) for Academic Staff Policy); and
  2. for professional staff (Professional Development Program for Professional Staff Policy).

(16) The Executive Dean of faculty or Head of Division will refer the application to the relevant Professional Development Committee if necessary.

(17) In addition, all staff travelling under these conditions must do so in accordance with the QUT Travel Policy and related procedures.

Section 10 - Exceptions to Policy

(18) The Vice-President (People) and Chief People Officer is authorised to approve variations to this Policy in exceptional circumstances. Any such variation will be recorded by Human Resources.
